Replace 55mm Sized Leatherette Cushions on Headphones and Headsets
Begin by Measuring the size of your earpiece from edge to edge to determine the headphone diameter
The 55mm Leatherette Cushions are approximately 55mm (2 11/64 inches) across the diameter of the Cushion. They will fit onto an earpiece that is smaller than 55mm, between 49mm and 52mm (1 15/16 and 2 1/16 inches). That's why you need to measure your earpiece size.
Instructions on how to measure the earpiece circumference to determine the average diameter:
- Remove the existing cushion from your headphone or headset, so you can see the part of the earpiece that your cushion will wrap around. The existing cushion is usually tucked into a thin groove around the outer edge of the earpiece
- After the original cushion has been removed and the earpiece is visible, cut a thin strip of paper and wrap it around the outer edge of the face of your earpiece, marking the paper at the point where it wraps around and touches the other end of the paper strip.
- Measure the length of that paper strip from the end to the place that you marked on the paper; That length will be the circumference.
- Use a calculator if necessary to divide the circumference by 3.14 (known as "PI".) Let's say your circumference measured 6 ¼ inches, for example. You divide 6.25 by 3.14 and the result will be 1.99 inches. That is the decimal equivalent to almost 2 inches; That would be your diameter. You will use the diameter value when looking at the tables that show which cushion will fit onto your earpiece.
